Leuk idee, veel gedoe

Great idea, lots of hassle

Een vriendengroep wilde een Tour de France-poule: iedereen stelt een team samen, drie weken lang punten per etappe, en aan het eind een winnaar. Het klassieke probleem: iemand moet elke avond uitslagen overtikken, punten narekenen en de stand in de appgroep zetten. Drie weken lang, eenentwintig etappes, foutgevoelig en altijd dezelfde die het doet.

A group of friends wanted a Tour de France pool: everyone builds a team, three weeks of points per stage, one winner at the end. The classic problem: someone has to copy results every evening, recalculate points and post the standings in the group chat. Three weeks, twenty-one stages, error-prone, and always the same person doing it.

A pool that runs itself

In dagen bouwde de factory een eigen, invite-only poule-platform op poule.inodus.nl. Deelnemers stellen eenmalig een team samen binnen een budget; renner-waardes worden automatisch afgeleid van de UCI-wereldranglijst. Daarna doet het systeem de rest: scoring per etappe, een dagelijkse joker met eigen spelregels, de stand, het verloop als grafiek en de eindklassement-punten.

In days, the factory built a private, invite-only pool platform. Participants build a team once, within a budget; rider values are derived automatically from the UCI world ranking. The system does the rest: per-stage scoring, a daily joker with its own rules, standings, a progress chart and the final-classification points.

De assistent doet het werk, de mens blijft de poort

Na elke etappe maakt het systeem het dagbericht: ritwinnaar, uitblinker van de dag, de nieuwe stand. Dat bericht gaat niet zomaar de appgroep in. Het loopt via mijn eigen Chief of Staff met een akkoord-stap: ik zie het bericht, keur het goed, en dan pas gaat het eruit. Automatisering waar het kan, een mens aan de poort waar het hoort. Deelnemers die iets willen weten, kunnen het de assistent in de appgroep gewoon vragen.

After every stage the system drafts the daily report: stage winner, ride of the day, the new standings. That message does not just go to the group chat. It passes through my own Chief of Staff with an approval step: I see it, approve it, and only then does it go out. Automation where possible, a human at the gate where it matters. Participants who want to know something can simply ask the assistant in the group chat.

De poule draaide de hele Tour zonder handmatig rekenwerk. De gesprekken in de appgroep gingen over de koers en de stand, niet over wie de punten nog moest bijwerken.

The pool ran the entire Tour without manual number-crunching. The group chat was about the race and the standings, not about who still had to update the points.
